scar Mic is a three-piece band from East London that fuse rap, post-punk and pop to create a freakishly satisfying sound. Imagine Beck meets Sleaford Mods, meets Slow Thai.
After crafting his sound as a one-man band at gigs with bad sound and perplexed-looking punters Seamus Hayes decided to morph Oscar Mic into a band. Seamus welcomed in old friend and drummer Taan Parker from previous project Shuffle and bass player Rez Erex, an enthusiastic music obsessive and riff machine. ‘Mountain Melody Maker’is the second release in this new formation. The band’s first single Sun Star was released in 2024 and was Radio X’s John Kennedy’s Hot One of the week.
‘Mountain Melody Maker’ is an angular, spikey offering, backed with a driving beat and vocal delivery from Seamus Hayes that is a burst of energy. Speaking about the track, he says:
‘The lyrics are quite abstract. I wanted to convey emotions of oppression and frustration in the soul, the wrenching struggles of feeling stifled and overlooked and the pain of confronting harsh realities, all for the ultimate drive to empowerment’
The music video, directed by Flavia Togni and Seamus Hayes, is a mash up of live and studio footage, full of Flavia’s wild effects and visuals.
Oscar Mic’s quirky sound has been championed by Huw Stephens on Radio 1, Tom Robinson on 6Music, John Kennedy at Radio Xand The Daily Star. Key bookings to date include Secret Garden Party, Wilderness, Oxjam and The Berlin Music Video Awards.
